With winter on the horizon (for some of us), the thought of dealing with ice-covered windshields and freezing leather seats can be enough to make you book a flight down south. But for those of you with a cool new Mazda loaded with the latest tech, it’s a walk in the park.
Why? Because you have the luxury of warming up your Mazda before jumping in—and you don’t even have to leave the warmth of your house to do it. The Mazda Connected Services app lets you control all the fun and exciting features of your Mazda from your smartphone and it’s simple to use.

How to start your Mazda remotely through the MyMazda App

Navigating your Mazda's features can be overwhelming, but using the MyMazda app is easy. Before using the remote start feature, you’ll need to download the MyMazda app, create an account (or sign in to an existing account), and add a vehicle.
If you don’t have an account, you can create one through the app or by visiting the
MyMazda website
. The app is available for iPhone users through the Apple App Store and Android users through Google Play Store.
Once you’ve signed into your account, the Remote Start feature will appear on the app's home screen for quick access. Just press and hold Start and keep your finger on the screen until the round meter completes a full circle. A pop-up message will confirm your engine has successfully been started.

How to turn your Mazda off remotely

Once you’ve started your Mazda using the remote engine start feature, the engine will run for 15 minutes before automatically shutting off. If you no longer need to hit the road in your Mazda, turning it off remotely is just as easy—the button in the center of the screen will switch to “Stop” when the engine is successfully started. Just press and hold the “Stop” button for about a second, and the engine will turn off.
Remember that for safety reasons, your Mazda remote engine start will not work if the key is in the car or the door is open.

Other Remote Connect features

What other tricks can your Mazda do with the MyMazda app? Some other helpful features include:
  • Lock/unlock doors and trunk: Lock and unlock your vehicle’s doors at the touch of a button.
  • Check your vehicle’s status and health report: View your car’s oil and fuel levels, maintenance alerts, and more.
  • Send to car: Plan your driving routes in advance and send them directly to your vehicle’s Mazda Connect Infotainment system for integrated in-car navigation.
  • Vehicle finder: Locate your parked vehicle and flash the hazards for easy identification.
  • Electric vehicle: Access your Mazda MX-30 EV to start and stop charging, adjust climate control, turn front and rear defog on or off, and more.
The MyMazda app is available on iPhone and Android smartphones. Mazda Connected Services also includes other smartphone capabilities, such as Roadside Assistance, which lets you connect directly to 24/7 towing and other services at the click of a button.

Is Mazda’s remote start app free?

No. The MyMazda app isn’t a built-in feature included in the cost of your new Mazda, but rather a subscription service where you’ll have to pay a monthly or yearly fee to access the features.
However, Mazda Connected Services offers a complementary three-year trial for new vehicle owners, which includes remote engine start capabilities. Once the trial period ends, you’ll have to pay to access it. The exact cost varies, but annual costs are around $65.
Depending on the year of your Mazda, you may have a remote engine start feature that operates from your key fob. But for people buying a 2022 Mazda, the MyMazda app might be your only option, which means you’ll have to pay to access the features once your trial period expires.
Not keen on shelling out $65 for a feature you already paid to have in your vehicle? Most owners aren’t, but Mazda is following the trend among most automakers toward a subscription model for vehicle accessories.
