How much does Mazda car insurance cost?
Mazda has been a leading automaker known for producing sporty, efficient, and reliable vehicles for over a century. From the small and sporty MX-5 Miata to the full-size CX-9, Mazda offers the perfect car for every driver.
Mazda drivers pay an average of $1,128 per year for car insurance—but every Mazda car insurance policy is as unique as the Mazda itself.
As much as we’d love for insurance premiums to be consistent, many factors go into calculating them, such as your age, driving record, model year, trim level, and location—that’s why there isn’t such a thing as an “average” auto insurance quote. The only true way to understand how much your car insurance will cost is to compare car insurance quotes for your own driver profile.

Best car insurance companies for Mazda drivers
When shopping for auto insurance, you want to find the right policy and provider for you and your vehicle.
Although it would be convenient, no single insurance provider offers the best and cheapest quotes for all Mazda drivers. This is because car insurance rates are highly personalized based on age, driving record, insurance history, zip code, coverage needs, and more.
Jerry conducted the largest car insurance survey nationwide to help drivers find the best Mazda insurance rates—we spoke to more than 16,000 policyholders in 50 states about 87 insurance providers.
Here’s how Mazda drivers rate different insurance providers.
Insurance Company | Overall Rating | Price | Claims Experience | Customer Service |
---|---|---|---|---|
Safeco | 4.6 | 4.4 | 4 | 4.5 |
Travelers | 4.5 | 4. | 4.4 | 4.5 |

How’d we get these scores?
Jerry’s experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.
Insurance costs for popular Mazda models
The Mazda model you drive can significantly impact the cost of car insurance. Here’s why:
- Safety features: All new Mazda’s are equipped with i-ACTIVSENSE® for enhanced safety and lower insurance costs, but older models with fewer safety features may have higher insurance rates.
- Vehicle value: The higher the value of your car, the higher the insurance costs will be. A fully-loaded Mazda CX-9 will have higher insurance rates than a base model Mazda 3.
- Vehicle class: Compact SUVs and small sedans like the Mazda CX-3, Mazda CX-30 and Mazda 3 are cheaper to insure than electric and hybrid vehicles, sports cars, and large sedans and SUVs.
- Engine size: Revving your turbocharged engines might be exciting, but it doesn’t lead to exciting car insurance rates. High-performance cars are classified as higher-risk on the road and have higher insurance premiums. But the only V6 engine in the Mazda lineup belongs to the brand-new CX-90—a total family SUV.
- Availability of replacement parts: If you drive a hybrid or older Mazda model, parts can be tricky to get—and that usually coincides with higher insurance premiums.
- Cost of repairs: Repair costs on gas-powered Mazda aren’t too steep, but their new mild hybrid and PHEV CX-90 have higher-than-average repair costs
Check out the table below to see the average cost of auto insurance for some popular Mazda models.
Car | Average State Minimum Insurance Cost | Average Full Coverage Insurance Cost |
---|---|---|
Mazda 3 | $95 | $178 |
Mazda CX-5 | $97 | $161 |
Mazda 6 | $102 | $182 |
Mazda CX-9 | $101 | $177 |
Mazda CX-30 | $110 | $176 |
Mazda Tribute | $92 | $135 |
Mazda 5 | $91 | $169 |
Regardless of your Mazda model, you’ll need proper insurance to hit the road. Minimum coverage insurance is the minimum amount of insurance legally required in your state and is usually only basic liability insurance, comprised of bodily injury and property damage liability coverage.
Mazda drivers with a newer vehicle may want to purchase a full-coverage insurance policy that includes collision and comprehensive coverage. This provides financial protection for damage to themselves, their car, and other vehicles and passengers involved in an accident.
Mazda 3 insurance cost
The Mazda 3 Hatchback and Sedan are Mazda’s best-selling compact cars. With excellent safety ratings, an affordable MSRP, outstanding reliability, and superior mileage, it’s easy to see why it’s a top pick.
Insurance on the Mazda 3 is slightly higher than you’d expect. On average, insurance costs for a Mazda 3 are about $178 per month for full coverage and $95 per month for state minimum coverage.
The trim level of your Mazda 3 Sedan will also dictate how much you pay for insurance. Higher trim levels have different features that increase the car’s value but can also improve safety. The 2024 Mazda 3 Sedan has two primary trim levels—2.5 S and 2.5 Turbo—with several optional packages.
- 2.5 S (starting MSRP: $23,715): Equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (191 hp, 186 lb-ft), 16-inch alloy wheels, an eight-speaker audio system, 8.8-inch center screen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
- Select (starting MSRP: $25,115): Adds 18-inch wheels, synthetic leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition and entry, and more safety features.
- Preferred (starting MSRP: $26,715): Adds power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings, heated front seats, and a sunroof.
- Carbon Edition (starting MSRP: $28,365): Adds 18-inch black-painted wheels, red leather interior, and 12-speaker Bose audio system.
- Premium (starting MSRP: $30,565): Adds head-up display, leather seats, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, and integrated navigation.
- 2.5 Turbo (starting MSRP: $33,615): Includes the contents of the 2.5 S’ optional Select, Preferred, and Premium packages and adds a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular or 250 hp and 320 lb-ft on 93 octane gas), AWD, 18-inch black-painted wheels, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a heated steering wheel.
- Premium Plus (starting MSRP: $35,165): Adds more exclusive features like front and rear parking sensors, a trunk-lid spoiler, a navigation system, leather upholstery, a surround-view camera system, and rear automatic braking
Repair costs tend to be highest for the 2.5S Turbo and Turbo Premium Plus since they have more features, leading to a higher-risk classification and higher insurance costs. Check out the table below to see the average cost of auto insurance for some popular Mazda 3 trims.

3 Sport | $105 | $185 |

Mazda CX-30 insurance costs
If you’re looking for a compact crossover SUV with excellent mileage, great safety ratings, and more practicality than a sedan, the CX-30 is a solid contender—it slots between the smaller Mazda 3 and the larger CX-5.
Based on our data, the average cost to insure a Mazda CX-30 is $110 per month for state-minimum coverage and $176 for full coverage. But insurance rates aren’t consistent—they’re individualized to the driver based on age, location, driving and insurance history, car year, trim level, and more. How much you pay also depends on whether you choose minimum or full coverage.
Higher trim levels of the CX-30 may also be more expensive to insure due to more features. Here’s a breakdown of the available trim levels for the 2024 Mazda CX-30:
- 2.5 S (starting MSRP: $24,325): Equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (191 horsepower, 186 lb-ft of torque), 16-inch alloy wheels, an eight-speaker audio system, 8.8-inch center screen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

What factors affect Mazda car insurance rates?
Insurers consider several factors when calculating car insurance rates:
- Vehicle cost: The higher the car’s value, the higher the insurance cost. Full coverage car insurance is more expensive for luxury, high-performance, and sports cars.
- Vehicle age: Newer models typically have higher insurance rates due to new technology and higher value.
- Vehicle safety features: Newer vehicles with added safety features can reduce insurance costs by enhancing accident prevention.
- Your age: Drivers under 25 pay some of the highest insurance rates due to a lack of driving experience. Senior drivers over 70 may also face increased insurance rates.
- Your driving record and claims history: Insurance companies reward good drivers with a clean driving record with lower insurance rates. If you have a driving history of accidents and violations, insurers see you as high-risk and you will usually pay higher rates.
- Credit history: Some states use your credit score to determine your risk level. Drivers with good credit usually see lower can insurance rates.
- Coverage: Purchasing minimum coverage will always lead to cheaper rates. Increasing your coverage and/or coverage limits will also increase your premium.
- Where you keep your car: Insurance rates will vary based on where you keep your vehicle. Population density, crime rates, road conditions, and other risk factors differ between states and cities and affect car insurance rates.
Here are some factors that impact auto insurance rates for Mazdas:
- Imports: Mazda parts are produced in Japan, and importing costs can be steep, which means replacing parts can be more expensive than domestic models.
- Safety: Virtually every model in the Mazda lineup has earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, which helps to reduce insurance costs.
- Reliability: Mazda is known for its dependability, which means a lower likelihood of claims and lower insurance rates.
Mazda insurance cost for young drivers
Teen drivers aged 16 to 19 pay the highest insurance premiums of any age bracket due to limited driving experience and a higher risk of accidents. For young drivers with new cars, a full-coverage car insurance policy is recommended for greater financial protection against accidents.
Mazda insurance cost for senior drivers
Young drivers aren’t the only ones who pay high rates for insurance—senior drivers over 70 do, too. Car insurance rates for seniors are typically higher because older drivers are more susceptible to serious injuries and mortality and have slower reflexes that increase the risk of accidents.
Jerry can help seniors who drive a Mazda find cheap car insurance.
Mazda insurance cost for drivers with driving violations
Your driving record greatly influences how much car insurance will be for your Mazda. If you have a history of at-fault accidents, speeding, tickets, and other violations, you’ll fall into the high-risk driver category and see an increase in your insurance rates.
Cheapest car insurance for Mazda drivers with speeding ticket
A single speeding ticket for going less than five miles over the speed limit isn’t likely to make a big dent in your Mazda insurance premiums—but repeated tickets or a single ticket for going well over the speed limit could cause a serious increase.
Mazda drivers can recruit the help of insurance expert Jerry to help find affordable car insurance with a speeding ticket on their record.

How can I lower the cost of my Mazda car insurance?
Whether you have a violation on your driving record or you drive a pricey Mazda, there are easy ways to lower your car insurance rates. Here are some of our best tips:
- Shop around and compare quotes: Not every insurer weighs the same factors equally, so getting quotes from several providers can help you find the coverage you need at the best price. Jerry makes shopping for car insurance simple by gathering quotes from over 50 top providers—no phone calls, emails, or sales pitches.
- Compare insurance costs before buying a car: Car insurance rates aren’t consistent between vehicles and some Mazda’s cost more to insure than others. If you’re looking for cheap insurance, stick to base trim levels and smaller cars—or buy used!
- Increase your deductible: Your deductible is the amount you must pay before your collision or comprehensive insurance coverage kicks in on a claim. Increasing your deductible will reduce your monthly insurance payments.
- Reduce auto insurance coverage: If you have an older vehicle, reducing coverage can help to lower your monthly payments.
- Bundle your car and homeowners insurance: Most insurers offer bundling discounts, whether home and auto or another type of insurance.
- Maintain a good credit score: Not all insurers look at credit scores to determine premiums, but increasing your credit score can get you a better rate.
- Ask about eligible car insurance discounts: Most insurers offer discounts to help drivers save—good student discounts, safe driver discounts, and low mileage discounts are some of the most popular.
