What does Liberty Mutual roadside assistance cover?

Liberty Mutual’s roadside assistance plan is available 24/7 and provides basic roadside assistance services like towing, fuel delivery, or changing a flat tire.
  • Towing: this service will tow your car to the nearest qualified service facility. You get unlimited towing miles until you reach the facility.
  • Dead battery jump-start: If your car battery is dead, you can get an emergency jump start or even a battery replacement.
  • Emergency fuel delivery: If you run out of fuel before making it to the gas station, this service will deliver fuel to wherever you are so you can get on the road again (price of fuel not included).
  • Flat tire changes: If one of your tires has gone flat and you’re unsure about how to replace it, you can call this service to have the tire replaced for you. (If you don’t have your own spare, you’ll need to pay for the replacement.)
  • Unlocking service: If you’ve accidentally locked yourself out of your car, Liberty Mutual can send a professional to unlock your door. If you’ve lost your keys, you’ll have to pay for a replacement set yourself.
  • On-scene labor: Depending on the circumstances, you can get on-site labor from a
    mobile mechanic
to help get you back on the road without a tow truck.
You can add roadside assistance to your Liberty Mutual policy as long as you have already purchased
towing and labor coverage
from them. Depending on your coverage level and the state laws in your area, there may be a limit on the number of roadside events you can claim in a six-month period.
Liberty Mutual roadside assistance is available while you’re driving in the US or Canada, and the service may be used while you’re driving your car, someone else is driving your car, or while you’re a passenger in your car.

How to use Liberty Mutual’s roadside assistance program

If you find yourself in a roadside emergency and you need to make use of this service, the easiest way to contact Liberty Mutual’s roadside assistance plan is by calling 1-800-426-9898. This toll-free number for roadside claims is open 24/7.
If you’d rather not speak to a representative on the phone, you can use your Liberty Mutual app:
  1. Go into your online Liberty insured account.
  2. Click the “Accident & Roadside Support” tab.
  3. Tap “Tow/Assistance” for the kind of claim.
  4. Select roadside service
  5. Type in your location, then enter your claim.
Be aware that roadside assistance isn’t available in the event of a collision. Recovery towing after an accident is included if you have
collision coverage
, towing and labor coverage, or from the at-fault driver’s
property damage liability
. If you are at fault for the accident, you might have to pay for towing yourself.

How much does Liberty Mutual roadside assistance cost?

Typically, adding this type of coverage to your current Liberty Mutual policy costs just $12 to $20 per year, or about $2 per month. This makes Liberty Mutual’s roadside assistance plan one of the most affordable plans available (other than
GEICO’s
plan for $14 per year).
The final cost per year will depend on several factors, such as the amount of coverage you have, the state you live in, and the kind of vehicle you own. You can also select different levels of roadside assistance coverage, which will affect how much your premium will cost.
While Liberty Mutual’s roadside assistance plan is pretty affordable, remember that you have to purchase towing and labor coverage first, which usually costs between $15 and $150 per year. On the other hand, other insurance providers charge an average of about $80 per year. For comparison, AAA memberships start at $59.99 per year.
Bottom line: Liberty Mutual’s roadside assistance plan is competitively priced, but you’ll need to invest in towing and labor coverage before you can access it. Is it worth it—and are you better off with a AAA membership instead?

Liberty Mutual roadside assistance vs. AAA

Liberty Mutual’s roadside assistance coverage is comparable to AAA’s basic plan, but there are a few key differences.
The most important difference is that Liberty Mutual’s roadside assistance is only applicable to vehicles covered by your policy, while AAA provides services to any vehicle you happen to be a driver or passenger in.
AAA also provides extra tiers of coverage with additional services, like 100 miles of towing, free one-day rental cars, and free passport photos. Additionally, AAA members benefit from travel and hotel discounts.
The biggest advantage of purchasing roadside assistance through Liberty Mutual is affordability and convenience. Liberty Mutual’s plan is much less expensive than AAA’s, and you can manage your roadside assistance coverage and insurance all under one account instead of balancing multiple accounts.
