While Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) doesn’t sell their own
car insurance
, you can use your membership to access a special insurance discount program through
Liberty Mutual
  • Military members who belong to Navy Federal Credit Union are eligible for a discount on Liberty Mutual auto insurance through TruStage Insurance Agency.
  • To get a Liberty Mutual car insurance quote that includes your NFCU discount, visit the NFCU website or call their customer service department.
  • Many NFCU members find affordable coverage with Liberty Mutual, but it’s still a good idea to compare costs with other providers.

Does Navy Federal Credit Union have car insurance?

Because Navy Federal is a credit union, and not an insurance company, you can’t buy car insurance from them directly. However, they have a history of partnering with existing insurance companies in order to offer generous coverage discounts. Currently, NFCU has teamed up with Liberty Mutual to offer insurance coverage through TruStage Insurance Agency
Whether you’re part of the Department of Defense, Coast Guard, or National Guard, an active-duty member of the military or a retiree, or an officer candidate, you and your family members will be eligible for Navy Federal’s insurance discount program as long as you have a NFCU membership.
As of 2023, Navy Federal Credit Union is only partnered with Liberty Mutual. Through this partnership, NFCU members get special access to discounts on both their car insurance and
homeowners insurance
Navy Federal has also partnered with other car insurance companies in the past, including
, but those discount programs are no longer active. This means that Navy Federal’s discount programs can change over time, so credit union members may need to switch insurance companies if NFCU chooses a new partner program in the future.

comprehensive insurance
gap insurance
medical payments (MedPay)
, and
personal injury protection
. All those insurance options make it easy to customize an insurance plan that works for you, whether you just want to meet your state’s requirements for liability coverage or you bought a new car and want full coverage.
Another benefit to purchasing auto insurance through Navy Federal’s partner program is their guaranteed 24-hour claims assistance. This service means you won’t have to wait for help if you need to file a claim after an accident or other incident.
In addition to their auto insurance program, Navy Federal offers other discounts through their partnership with Liberty Mutual and TruStage, such as renters, condo, and home insurance programs. To learn more about these programs, simply visit the NFCU website or call the customer service phone number listed at the beginning of this section.

How much does Navy Federal car insurance cost?

Just like regular car insurance, the exact amount you’ll pay for coverage purchased through Navy Federal’s discount program depends on the insurance options you choose and risk factors such as your age, gender, location, and credit score
However, because Navy Federal members get access to additional discounts simply for being credit union members, they might find lower insurance rates with Liberty Mutual compared to other providers. That said, it’s still a good idea to shop around and compare quotes from several insurance companies to ensure you’re getting the best rate available to you.
Both Navy Federal and USAA offer similar banking and financial products for servicemen and women and their household members—but when it comes to car insurance, the two companies are very different
While Navy Federal relies on partnership programs with outside insurance companies, USAA writes its own insurance policies. In general, USAA is considered one of the most affordable car insurance companies for military members because they typically offer robust coverage options at below-average rates.
But because insurance policies and quotes are individualized, USAA might not be the most affordable option for you. To find out whether you can get a better rate with a USAA policy or Navy Federal’s discounted Liberty Mutual car insurance, get a free quote from each company and see which is the cheaper option.
