BMW's 4 Series is available in three body styles (a coupe, convertible, and four-door
Gran Coupe
) and two powertrain trims. The
430i
is powered by a 255-horsepower, 2.0L turbocharged inline-four (starting at $46,595). As for the M440i
(starting at $59,496), it revs a 3.0L turbocharged inline-six with 362-hp. No matter which one you pick, you'll have an eight-speed automatic transmission at your fingers. There's space for four in the 4 Series, but the sloped ceiling poses a problem for adults in the rear. However, you won't hear any complaints about the seating. The sporty chairs and rear bench are both stylish and pleasantly contoured.

In such a sleek sedan, it's unsurprising to find so little storage space. The doors and center console offer discrete compartments, but you'll have to save your luggage for the trunk, and even then, you'd better pack light. Luggage is limited to 12 cubic feet and towing capacity to 3,700 pounds, making the 4 Series strictly a weekend getaway car.
Style
In the 4 Series's aggressive, angular lines, BMW's sporty heritage comes through with precision and restraint. A liberal amount of silver accents create some no-nonsense divisions between different parts of the dash.
