The most common 2015 Nissan Murano problems

While the 2015 Nissan Murano is a fairly reliable vehicle, it does have more complaints registered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) than most other Murano models, along with five safety recalls.
While some of the Murano’s issues are pretty minor, there are a couple that could be very dangerous. One such issue is the subject of three of the five safety recalls—brake fluid may leak into the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) pump and cause an electrical short. This short, in a few instances, caused a fire to ignite.
Another serious complaint is that the front passenger airbag doesn’t deploy during a crash as a result of an OCS error. If an airbag doesn’t deploy properly in an accident, passengers are at an increased risk of serious injury.
Some other Murano drivers have reported malfunctions in the ABS, specifically an actuator failure that causes loss of vehicle stability while driving. This could increase the risk of an accident.
Other common problems with the 2015 Murano include:
  • Failing engine mounts, which cause a thumping noise
  • Timing chain rattle or tapping noise
Some of the Murano’s issues can be dangerous if they occur while driving. If you own a 2015 Murano or are considering purchasing one, it’s worth it to check if your vehicle was subject to any of the five safety recalls and to keep an eye out for potential issues.

Is the 2015 Nissan Murano reliable?

Because of the severity of some of the 2015 Nissan Murano’s problems, it only has an average reliability score compared to other midsize SUVs.
For example, the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox—one of the Nissan Murano’s top competitors—has a perfect 5/5 reliability rating from J.D. Power while the Murano has a 3.5/5.
The average annual cost to repair and maintain a 2015 Nissan Murano is $405. While that cost is below average for most SUVs, most of that cost is made up of serious repairs.
