Why your 2008 Acura TL needs a radio code

Even though radio codes may seem like a hassle, they’re actually theft deterrents. Car stereos are one of the top car components thieves target, so manufacturers use radio codes to try and cut down on personal property theft.
So, when your battery gets disconnected, your radio stops functioning until you enter a radio code. The idea is that the vehicle’s owner will have no problem getting the radio running again, but a thief without the radio code can’t.
Unfortunately, if you don’t know where to find your code, you’re also left with a stereo that won’t work. But don’t worry—getting your radio code is pretty simple.

How to find your 2008 Acura TL radio code

First, you’ll want to search for a sticker with your radio code on it. It could be in several locations, but your code will always be a five-digit number.
For most Acuras, the radio code sticker is generally in the glove box or on the engine compartment’s fuse box cover. It might also be in your owner’s manual, driver’s side door jamb, or trunk jamb.
If your scavenger hunt doesn’t turn up the radio code sticker, you can look up your code with some information.

How to look up a 2008 Acura TL radio code

To look up your 2008 Acura TL radio code, you’ll need your
vehicle identification number
(VIN) and the radio serial number.
Your VIN is in a few different places: at the base of the windshield, on your insurance card, and your vehicle’s registration.
To find the radio’s serial number, turn your ignition to the “ON” position. Turn on your radio, and it should display “CODE.” Turn the radio off, then press and hold the 1 and 6 preset buttons. Turn the radio back on. It should display the first four digits of the serial number, then the last four digits. Ignore any letters that are displayed.
Once you have your VIN and serial number, you can look up your radio code

If you only have the radio serial number, you can call Acura’s customer service at (800) 382-2238. They’ll ask for some information and the serial number and issue you a new radio code.
