Why your 2005 Honda Accord needs a radio code

Your car’s radio may be little more than the background noise on your morning commute—but when it stops working completely, the sudden silence can feel deafening. But if you’ve recently replaced or disconnected your 2005 Accord’s battery, you’ll likely need your radio code before you can listen to music again.
Radio codes help deter sound system theft—which is great news if you don’t have
sound system insurance
, but not so great if you’re just trying to listen to your favorite band and don’t have the code on hand. Thankfully, finding the magic numbers to reset your radio is a pretty straightforward process.

How to find your 2005 Honda Accord radio code

Before you start your search for the code, try this radio hack: press and hold down the power button for two seconds. In most cases, this will automatically reset the radio so it starts working properly without you actually having to enter a code.
If the button trick isn’t working, though, it’s time to look for the radio code.
In a 2005 Honda Accord, the first place to check is your glove compartment. The radio code is five digits long and can be found on a sticker along with the radio serial number. Alternatively, check your owner’s manual for the code, keeping an eye out for labeling that reads “Anti-Theft Radio Code” or something similar.

How to look up a 2005 Honda Accord radio code

Let’s say you bought your 2005 Honda Accord used, or maybe you’re just really bad with records. Don’t worry—there’s still another way for you to find your car’s radio code.
Honda’s OEM website can help you find your specific radio code using just a few key pieces of information: your
vehicle identification number (VIN)
and your radio’s serial number.
Finding your VIN is as simple as checking your car’s insurance or registration cards, the sticker on the lower lefthand side of your windshield, or an old Honda billing statement—but finding your radio serial number is a little trickier:
  • Start by pressing the preset buttons1 and 6 and holding them down
  • At the same time, press the power button
  • After a few seconds, a 10-digit code will appear on your radio’s display—that code is your serial number
Once you’ve got both numbers down, navigate to Honda’s
online search tool
and enter both your VIN and serial number to look up your car’s specific radio code. Alternatively, you can call 1-800-999-1009
If you can’t seem to figure out the serial number or would rather save yourself the trouble, you can always take your vehicle to your local Honda dealer instead. The dealership should have the information you need to crack the code and get the jams playing once more!
