Best used trucks: 2012 Toyota Tacoma

The 2012 Toyota Tacoma starts at a reasonable $12,350. With an owner-reported 20 mpg, the used truck sports a 4.0-liter V6 engine with 236 hp. The four-door is an excellent off-roader and has a towing capacity of 6,400 pounds.
Even without the available TRD off-roading package with hill descent control, a locking rear differential, and off-road tires, the Tacoma can conquer challenging rock hills with easy throttle modulation and excellent traction. And the practical rust-free composite bed comes in handy more often than not.
Though the roof is a bit low, you’ll still get plenty of leg and foot room. Some owners love the oversized steering wheel with its large rim and others were not a fan.
Inside the cabin, the large displays are backlit and easy to read. The climate and audio systems feature simple controls like large buttons and dials. There’s a large center console compartment, and the rear seats have a 60/40 configuration.
Once the cushions are folded forward, a secret storage area is revealed underneath. It’s also easy to create a flat load area with the rear seatbacks folded forward.
The cargo bed offers open and covered rust-proof storage compartments, and with the tailgate lowered, the bed can handle items up to 80 inches long.  While the tailgate may not be fitted with
crazy modern tailgate tech
, it can easily be removed without tools.
Consumer Reports
gave the 2012 Toyota Tacoma a 5 out of 5 rating for its predicted reliability and usability. The used truck scored 4 out of 5 for its acceleration, transmission, and front seat comfort.
While it may feel a bit dated and uncomfortable for daily commuting, the V6 powertrain offers true adventure seekers a smooth ride to take on tough terrain. Just

Best used trucks: 2012 Toyota Tundra

You can get your hands on a 2012 Toyota Tundra for as little as $14,175. The used truck has an owner-reported 15 mpg and sports a beefy 5.7-liter V8 engine. Other available engines include a 4.0-liter V6 with 236 hp and a 4.6-liter V8 with 310 hp.
Owners are a fan of the Toyota Tundra’s handling, power, and impressive tow and haul capacity. The 5.7-liter V8 engine can easily pull 7,400 pounds in just 16 seconds.
The Tundra’s handling is responsive and well-weighted, but don’t expect a ton of feedback. The CrewMax model without the TRD suspension is your smoothest option. As far as road noise, the used truck does a great job suppressing road and wind noise with a slight engine hum remaining.
The Toyota offers big truck capacity and generous storage options when it comes to the interior. While the cabin does feature a lot of hard plastic, the plastics are nicely grained. The bucket seats give the driver an enclosed feel, and Consumer Reports was a fan of the proper left footrest and optional telescoping steering wheel.
The center console is enormous and small additional storage areas are nestled throughout the cabin. Each front door features small fold-down pockets and the front seatbacks each offer a storage pocket.
The 2012 Toyota Tundra earned a 5 out of 5 rating from Consumer Reports for its overall reliability, transmission, and trunk/cargo area. It received a 4 out of 5 for its overall owner satisfaction, acceleration, headlights, noise, front-seat comfort, usability, and climate system.
