background
McLaren
has been a legend in the racing world for decades. Their cars have broken records, and their vehicle’s styling have helped shape the current image of the modern supercar. But now, McLaren is entering a new frontier—home audio. That’s right, McLaren is hoping to start diving into home entertainment with the help of their partner, Bowers & Wilkins.
McLaren is venturing into new territory—and you could, too. If you’ve been overpaying for your
car insurance
, it’s time that you figured out how good it could feel to start saving money on your overpriced premiums.

Why is McLaren going to sell home entertainment speakers?

The deal started with an extended contract with Bowers & Wilkins, who has been producing McLaren’s audio systems since 2015. The new contract extends their partnership for several more years, and could potentially expand into the home entertainment market.
As to why such a race-oriented company is looking to start making home entertainment
speakers
, it’s unclear. Perhaps they’re motivated by a lagging car market, or are positioning themselves to expand their product line into other spaces.

This isn’t the first time McLaren has partnered with an audio manufacturer

Klipsch
, a company known for producing audiophile equipment, released the Klipsch-McLaren crossover product known as the “The Fives” McLaren Edition. These super high-quality speakers use carbon fiber subwoofer cones, and even have titanium tweeters (for ultra-clear high-end frequencies).
Selling for $1,500 a pair, they’re certainly not cheap—but then again, neither is a McLaren. They use an HDMI ARC cable, as well, which means no extra fuss trying to get the wiring and hookups to your TV positioned just right. One cable means you’re good to go, instantly.

Who is Bowers & Wilkins?

Lesser-known than McLaren, but just as pioneering, B&W is noted for several innovations in the car audio field, including integrating subwoofers into cars’ carbon-fiber monocoque. This development allowed for car-mounted subwoofers to have a more expansive range.
Their most recent collaboration with MacLaren included overhauling the audio system in the McLaren Senna—and they were even kind enough to publish a curated playlist for those lucky enough to find themselves behind the wheel of the supercar with a super sound system.
