background
The newest McLaren is dubbed the fastest
luxury car
the brand has built yet, and it's not an updated version of the highest-selling vehicle from the brand, the F1. The Speedtail offers way more speed.
What makes this Hyper-GT the fastest? Well, a few unique features should get the credit.
The McLaren Speedtail is the fastest luxury car from the brand so far.

The powertrain in the McLaren Speedtail is more than impressive

According to
Motor Trend
, this new McLaren clocks in at 2.9 seconds for acceleration from 0 to 60 mph. It can hit 100 mph in 5.1 seconds, which matches what Motor Trend's editors got with the 2019 McLaren Senna.
Powering it up is a combination of a 4.0-liter V-8 engine and an electric drive system. Together, the Hyper-GT generates a total of 1,055 horsepower, enough to get up to 186 mph in 13 seconds.
However, the electric powertrain is what gives the Speedtail an edge. The battery system streamlines the power to weight ratio, enabling it to deliver the highest amount of battery-only power over any other road car on the market.
It also comes with a revolutionary battery cooling system that keeps the hybrid powertrain going strong for a long time, according to
McLaren's
press release.

What helps the Speedtail’s aerodynamics?

The car is designed to help the powertrain disperse energy. McLaren not only kept the weight down, but it also utilized every part of the car’s exterior to keep air flowing around it. The Speedtail's rear body panel stretches from the driver's door all the way around to the passenger one. This keeps the airflow constant with no extra seams to interrupt it.
Even the front tires have a purpose. Clad in carbon-fiber covers, they're designed to direct the air along the sides of the vehicle. The Speedtail sports Pirelli P Zero tires, which are designed to handle the vehicle's top speed on most road surfaces.

Other specs and features

There are a few other unique features on the Speedtail that showcase its innovative side. The most obvious one is the central driving position. There are three seats inside, and passengers can sit to the left or right of the driver.
It also offers high-quality leather seating and a clean dashboard setup. This McLaren is virtually buttonless, with touch-sensitive controls instead of knobs that can clutter up the dash.
You can access driver info on the left of the steering wheel, infotainment apps on the right, and put the car into drive mode with the controls above you. However, the Speedtail is a bit on the expensive side, coming in at $2.2 million, so not many people will be able to get their hands on one. Those that do will want to protect it with good car insurance.
