Moving up the ladder

The Road To Indy is a program designed to take aspiring race car drivers up the “ladder” to finally compete in the IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500. Around 60% of the competitors in the Indy 500 in 2021 came through this program.

, Brewer started at the lowest rung of this ladder last year and has been working her way up. The Indy Pro2000 is the second to last rung of this development program. Brewer’s 16 upcoming IndyPro races will be a mix of racing ovals, street circuits, and road racecourses. Her first race will be at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama on April 30, and May 1, 2022.

She will be driving a single-seat Tatuus IP-22. This Indy car-style race car is an open-wheel style, with a top speed of around 165 mph.

Where did it all start?

The dream of racing came to Brewer when she was 11 at a go-kart racing facility. She just did a “for fun” test ride and had a time faster than the drivers who were competing in the race. From then on, she was hooked.

She took to racing road cars as a teen and won the US Legend Car Championship in 2015. A four-year racing hiatus allowed her to complete her college degree from the University of San Diego, but after that, she was ready to get back behind the wheel. Brewer attended the highly successful Skip Barber Racing School and then earned a spot on the podium at the Saleen Cup GT Series.

She has had success in various other regional and national races. She was the Rockies Region Champion for four straight years and placed in the top ten in her first two rounds at the TC America Series Race in Sonoma. Her next endeavor was the W Series, which is a racing series for women race car drivers. With her dream is to make it to the Indy 500, Brewer figured the Road to Indy program will be her best shot.
