Between GM’s Chevy and
GMC
models, it’s often hard to tell the difference. But when it comes to trucks, GMC represents the luxury side of the family, creating a distinct balance of rugged capability and refinement few other brands match up to.
This is best represented in GMC’s new AT4 package, which aims to attract truck fans who want a vehicle that looks good on the road or tearing up the dirt on the trail.
But is the GMC AT4 package worth it? We’d say so, but it definitely depends on what you’re in the market for, and how much you’re willing to spend. When it comes to purchasing a four-wheel drive,
MotorTrend
reports it’s worth considering the GMC AT4 package—just be prepared to pay extra.

What’s included in the GMC AT4 package?

AT4 stands for all-terrain four-wheel drive, but with extra luxury included. This package is available for the GMC Yukon, Sierra, and
Canyon
trims. You might be curious what’s included, though.
Some of the highlights of this premium package are an available 420-horsepower, 480 lb-ft 6.2-liter Ecotec3 engine—a $2,615 upgrade over the standard 355 horsepower V8 5.3-liter engine. A 10-speed electronic automatic transmission paired to both engine options.
The GMC AT4 package also comes with an AutoTrac two-speed transfer case for improved responsiveness when climbing or descending steep hills, or when getting unstuck in the backcountry.
All AT4 models have increased ground clearance (2 inches) compared with other GMC packages. Each AT4 rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels in a Carbon Gray Metallic trim, mated with aggressively-treaded Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner tires.

The GMC AT4 package comes with a revamped interior

If you opt for the GMC AT4 package, you’ll also be rewarded with an interior to be envied. Complete with premium stitched leather seats (which are both ventilated, heated, and air-conditioned), brushed aluminum trim accents, and a 10.2-inch color touchscreen and Google-enabled Infotainment system.
The infotainment system is also Android and Apple CarPlay compatible. To top things off, GM has also included a high-definition rearview camera and advanced pedestrian alert system—a must for large four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Overall, if you’re a fan of off-roading and luxury, coughing up the extra cash for this trim level might be something worth considering.

GMC AT4 Premium takes things up a notch

With the GMC AT4 Premium, even more extras are available, but possibly unnecessary for most buyers. Still, it’s worth noting some of the premium features this package offers, which include: GMC’s ProGrade Trailering System, an extra-capacity cooling system, panoramic power sunroof, and power-retractable running boards with perimeter lighting.
The standard AT4 package for the Yukon starts at around $66,000, while the premium AT4 Yukon costs an additional $8,000, rounding out the base price to $75,000. This might not appeal to most buyers; after all, the regular GMC AT4 comes with a host of features on its own.
