background
Jeep’s Cold Weather package ranges from $1,045 to $1,395 and features upgrades including a remote-start system, heated seats, and a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel. But, this package isn’t universally available across all Jeep models and trim levels.
Known for its long history of producing rugged go-anywhere vehicles, Jeep has always been a fan favorite for its cars and trucks that can brave even the most difficult of driving conditions. From off-road terrain to icy, slick winter roads, Jeeps are up for the adventure.
If you’re braving those slick, winter roads, chances are you spend at least part of your year in cold weather. Jeep offers the Cold Weather Group—in Jeep language, packages are referred to as groups—that can be added to some Jeep models and trims to equip your Jeep with all the features necessary to comfortably survive harsh winters.
Here’s a rundown of the Jeep Cold Weather package.

What is the Jeep Cold Weather package?

The Jeep Cold Weather Group is an optional add-on package that’s available on select models and trims. Currently, the models that you can get the Cold Weather package on are:
  • Jeep Gladiator: Sport S, Freedom, Willys, Overland, Rubicon, Mojave, High Altitude
  • Jeep Wrangler: Sport S, Freedom, Willys, Rubicon, Sahara, Sport RHD, High Tide, High Altitude
  • Jeep Wrangler 4xe: Willys 4xe, Sahara 4xe, Rubicon 4xe, High Altitude 4xe
If you’ve got your eyes on a model or trim that didn’t make the list, it never hurts to double-check with your local dealer if the Cold Weather Group is available for your model and trim level.
The Cold Weather package is designed to equip your Jeep with the features needed to keep you warm and comfortable throughout winter. Let’s take a look at what exactly that entails.

What’s included

Jeep’s Cold Weather package offers three or four upgrades depending on your model and trim.
  • Remote-start system (unavailable with some configurations)
  • Heated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel

What it does

The Cold Weather package does exactly what you’d think it does—it equips your Jeep with features that make cold weather a bit more bearable.
Rolling out of the embrace of your warm bed in the morning to get into a defrosting vehicle is miserable. Jeep’s Cold Weather package adds a remote-start system to your Jeep so you can start and warm up your Jeep while you’re still enjoying your morning coffee.
Plus, starting your Jeep remotely means it’ll get to work on melting some of the ice on your windshield, so scraping your windshield is less of a battle.
Remote start also gives your Jeep’s engine time to warm up to normal operating temperature, allowing the engine oil to flow more freely. It’s important to check if the Cold Weather package for your model and trim level includes remote-start because it isn’t available for every Jeep that has the Cold Weather package option.
The remainder of the features that come with the Cold Weather Group are for added comfort and easier maintenance. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel make driving in the cold more comfortable, while a leather-wrapped steering wheel tends to have a longer life quality-wise and is easier to clean.

Is the Jeep Cold Weather package worth it?

If you’re living in the sunshine all year round, the cost of a Jeep Cold Weather package probably isn’t worth it; however, the Cold Weather package is definitely worth it if you live somewhere with cold or harsh weather for at least part of the year.
If harsh winter weather isn’t a concern, but you still want to add some extra features to your Jeep, there are other packages you might consider.

Cold Weather Group vs. Convenience Group

Okay, so maybe you live somewhere where heated seats and a heated steering wheel wouldn’t be of much use but the convenience of remotely warming your Jeep before you hit the road sounds nice. The Convenience Group ($995 to $1,745) is another optional add-on package available on select Jeep models and trim levels.
The Convenience package can be a little confusing because the features included in this package vary significantly depending on which model and trim level you’re looking for despite having the same or similar package names. Some Convenience packages also include heated seats and a heated steering wheel, while others don’t.
Depending on the Jeep model you choose, the Convenience package may include some combination of the following features:
  • A daytime running lamp system
  • A universal garage-door opener
  • Body-color fender flares (unavailable with some configurations)
  • A remote-start system (unavailable with some configurations)
  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Automatic-dimming rear-view mirror
  • Security alarm
  • Windshield wiper de-icer
  • Rain-sensitive windshield wipers
  • 8-way power adjustable driver seat
  • Heated front seats
  • A heated steering wheel
  • Power 2-way driver lumbar adjustment
  • 115-volt auxiliary power-outlet

The bottom line

The Cold Weather package probably doesn’t make sense if you live in a warm climate for most of the year; however, if you spend even part of your year in harsh winter weather, and the Cold Weather package is an option for the model and trim you’ve picked out, it’s definitely worth the extra expense.
The features available in the Cold Weather package make winter driving safer and more comfortable.
