Just because a car is a mass-market product doesn’t mean it has to be boring—at least that seems to be
Dodge’s
strategy.
This American brand built its reputation making
muscle cars
, trucks, and passenger cars that appealed to the consumer’s sense of individuality and adventure, and according to a recent
J.D. Power
, it’s paying off.
Read on with the car ownership experts at Jerry as we dive into why Dodge scored so highly in J.D. Power’s 2022 APEAL study, and why the brand is so good at making cars that keep customers coming back.

What is the APEAL study?

The Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study surveys owners and measures their emotional attachment and level of excitement with their new vehicle.
The study is based on responses from 84,165 owners of new 2022 model-year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership, and responses were collected between February 2022 to May 2022.
To calculate the overall score, J.D. Power surveys owners on 37 attributes about their new car, and those responses are then aggregated to compute an overall APEAL Index score measured on a 1,000-point scale.
While the study does take into consideration many practical aspects of car ownership, it is largely about measuring the owners’ feelings of satisfaction and excitement about their cars.

Dodge dominated for the third year in a row

Dodge scored first place as the highest-ranked mass-market brand for three years running with a score of 882, while Porsche ranked highest among luxury brands with a score of 888.
David Amodeo, director of global automotive at J.D. Power, attributed the brand’s respective wins to a profound sense of identification and personal connection that drivers feel towards their vehicles.
“While these brands are very different, both Dodge and Porsche owners identify strongly with their vehicles,” said Amodeo.
It makes sense, as many
vintage Dodge models
rack up big-ticket resales at classic car auctions or go on to become
memorialized in film
and popular culture.
