Ford
has done so much with the Mustang in the past few years that it's hard to keep track. While there is a lot of well-deserved hype around the electric Mustang Mach-E, that's not the only thing Ford has done with the Mustang brand.
The new Ford Mustang GT500KR will undoubtedly be a legendary speed demon. Ford teamed up with their old pals at Shelby American Inc. to build a brand new Shelby Mustang to celebrate the car's 60th anniversary.

History of Shelby

Shelby American Inc is the brainchild of legendary racer Caroll Shelby. Shelby got into racing at the late age of 29 and started out on the amateur circuit. Despite his late start in the racing world, he would eventually compete at Le Mans and in numerous international Grand Prix events.
After a couple of crashes, Shelby retired from the racetrack to found his own limited production factory.
Envious of all the specialty automotive shops in Europe, Shelby decided it was time to open one in America. The shop opened in 1962 and instantly started working with Ford to build the legendary Cobra. A few years later, Shelby would design the Mustang that bears his name.
While Caroll Shelby died in 2012, his namesake lives on. His motor company and Ford would team up again to make the third generation Ford Mustang GT500KR.

Anything that bears the Shelby name must live up to high standards, and the Ford Mustang GT500KR doesn't disappoint. The car's nickname is "king of the road," hence the KR in GT500KR.
This muscle car carries a beefy 5.2-L V8 engine that can produce 900 hp, according to
Robb Report
. It also looks more sporty than the regular GT500. The Ford Mustang GT500KR comes with a carbon-fiber hood, front splitter, and rear diffusers.
Not to mention that it comes with some hidden badging Easter eggs, notably the little 60 on the grill honoring the 60th anniversary of the Shelby Mustang.
The interior isn't too shabby either. Nearly everything is coated in leather and there is more special badging that can be found throughout the interior.

How can you buy a Ford Mustang GT500KR?

Owning a Ford Mustang GT500KR will have many more hurdles than other Mustangs.
Let's start with the biggest hurdle: price. If you're lucky enough to purchase one of these bad boys directly from Ford, you're looking at a starting price tag of $127,895. Expect prices to be even higher if you need to go to the third-party market.
The next biggest challenge will be availability. Only 180 were made for the US market, with 60 being released per year between 2020-2022. If you're not afraid of shipping costs, an additional 45 were made for the international market.
Regardless if you'll ever be able to drive a Ford Mustang GT500KR, it's always nice to see an American supercar in a market dominated by European brands.
