Amazon Is Teaming up With Another Automaker Not Named Rivian
Amazon and Stellantis have teamed up to create a cutting-edge new SmartCockpit for an immersive, personalized driving experience. What are the details of the new partnership?
In addition to their existing partnership with Rivian, Amazon is now teaming up with automotive corporation, Stellantis, to completely restructure their in-cabin experience.

Starting in 2024 the Amazon-designed software platform will be integrated into millions of STLA automobiles. The technology will seamlessly integrate passengers' digital lives to create a personalized, intuitive driving experience. The software will offer curated services and experiences through the app store and display on a state-of-the-art interface.
For example, users in a Chrysler Pacifica minivan would have the option for a family-oriented trip planner with media, points of interest, and suggested stops programmed along the way. Or, customers in an off-road vehicle like a Jeep would have access to an “off-road coach” that would help them calibrate their vehicle to tackle tough terrain.
In addition, STLA Smart Cockpit would also connect to Amazon’s impressive smart home and security services so they can monitor and manage their homes on the go. The tech would go both ways so when at home, they could manage their vehicles as well.
, the partnership will also entail Stellantis utilizing AWS (Amazon Web Services) for all of their data storage on Amazon’s cloud-based software. This data pipeline will allow Amazon to more efficiently update the STLA Smartcockpit as well as accurately create the user experience.
Both companies are creating a cloud-based product development environment called the “Virtual Engineering Workbench.” This platform provides automated workflows to manage software development and testing, high-performance simulations, machine learning model training, and data collection and analysis.

Innovation hubs and agile-auto software and data academy
Stellantis recently announced the launch of their Software Academy to help reskill and upskill existing and new employees. To help implement this new technology, AWS will help educate 5,000 engineers and developers in the new technology, assuring that the support will be there for its expansive rollout.
To further speed development activities and reduce time to market for new capabilities, Stellantis and AWS will launch a global network of AWS-powered Innovation Hubs where experts from both companies will innovate using the breadth and depth of AWS cloud services.

This is a bold and proactive move on the part of Amazon to assure that they hit their 2040 goal of being carbon net-zero while also being able to capitalize on their competitive AWS software. It’s a compatible relationship that stands to serve both Stellantis as well as Amazon in the years to come.
