background
To sell a car in
Oklahoma
, you’ll need to complete a title transfer, odometer disclosure statement, and submit a bill of sale to the buyer. A vehicle inspection or emissions test isn’t required—but it can improve the longevity of the car you’re selling.

What you need to sell a car in Oklahoma

When selling a car, the first step is to gather the necessary materials. In Oklahoma, you’ll need the following.
  • A signed/notarized Oklahoma certificate of title
  • A vehicle history report
  • An odometer disclosure statement
  • Current registration
If you don’t have access to your car’s title, you’ll need to request a copy via an application for a duplicate certificate of title for Vehicle/Boat/motor (
Form 701-7
). You’ll have to pay a small fee.
Those with liens must have the lien released (or speak with their lienholder) before selling a vehicle. If you use a power of attorney to sell your vehicle, you’ll need to submit an additional power of attorney form.

Getting a pre-sale inspection

Oklahoma law doesn’t require your vehicle to undergo emission or general inspections before the sale—but undergoing one is a great way to improve the longevity of your vehicle and give your buyer some additional peace of mind.
The prices for inspections are as follows:
  • Emission inspections: $5.00
  • General Inspection: $100.00 to $200.00

Documenting the sale

Oklahoma doesn’t require a bill of sale to document the sale and purchase of new vehicles—but providing one to your buyer can be beneficial for record-keeping and tax purposes.
Here
is what the form will look like.

Signing the title over

To sign over the title of a vehicle, you’ll need to have a verification of liability insurance, the vehicle's current registration, and an
odometer disclosure statement
(for cars less than nine years old) on hand.
From here, have the buyer and seller sign the car’s Oklahoma certificate of title in the requested locations and get the document notarized.

Reporting the sale

The seller may complete a notice of transfer of ownership of a vehicle form to report the sale, but this is optional. If you choose to complete this form, be sure to have the buyer sign it before filing with the DPS.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
