background
To apply for a replacement title in Nebraska, you’ll need the completed and notarized application form, vehicle information, VIN, owner information, and you must pay the $14 fee.
In Nebraska, all drivers must have a certificate of title for their vehicle, which legally certifies who owns the vehicle. You have to transfer a vehicle’s title if you relocate to a different state or sell your car. On the other hand, if you lose or damage your vehicle title you will need to get a replacement.
Applying for a replacement title in Nebraska isn’t a challenging process if you know what to do.

How to apply for a replacement title in Nebraska

There are only two steps as part of Nebraska’s application process.
To obtain a replacement title, you must:
  • Submit a completed Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title to any County Treasurer’s office
  • Get every signature on the application notarized
The only fee for this application is $14, and it must be paid when the application is submitted.
Remember, if there is a lien on your vehicle, the lienholder can also apply for a duplicate title.

How long does it take to get a replacement title in Nebraska?

Once you have submitted your application with all the necessary information and paid the fee, you should receive your new title within 14 days in the mail.

When do you need a replacement title?

Without a replacement title, you will not be able to prove that you legally own your vehicle. This will also prevent you from selling your car as completing this type of transaction requires you to first prove ownership.
You should immediately apply for a replacement title in Nebraska if any of the following have occurred:
  • You’ve lost your title
  • Your title has been damaged
  • The text on your title is illegible
  • Your title has been stolen
  • Information on your title is incorrect
  • You never received a title, to begin with
Before trying to obtain a replacement title, you need to be sure that the original title has been lost or damaged. A vehicle can only have one title.
