4 ways to cancel Direct Auto insurance

Direct Auto policyholders have four different ways to fulfill a current policy cancellation:
icon
By phone: Direct Auto policyholders can call the customer service phone number at 1-877-463-4732 to discuss their car insurance rates, or cancel their policy.
icon
By fax: You can’t cancel your policy by mail, but you can handwrite a statement and fax it to 1-877-622-7338. Make sure to include your full name, as it stands on your driver’s license, your policy number, address, date of birth, and cancellation date.
icon
By email: To request a cancellation online, email customer service at
service@directauto.com
with your name, address, date of birth and effective cancellation date.
icon
In-person: Lastly, you can visit your insurance provider at a local branch, and speak to a representative in-person.

Does Direct Auto charge a cancellation fee?

Yes. Direct Auto generally charges a short-rate cancellation fee for canceling early in your term. This charge is typically 10% of your unused premiums and oftentimes goes toward policy administrative fees.

Can you get a refund if you paid in full?

Yes. For state laws that don’t allow short-term cancellation fees, Direct Auto uses the pro-rata cancellation method, meaning that policyholders are refunded for the premiums that they didn’t use.

You can cancel your Direct Auto insurance at any time—but make sure to have a new policy in place, first

Whether you have a full coverage policy, or the state minimum insurance with Direct Auto, like with most insurance companies, you can cancel their car insurance policy at any time.
Canceling your Direct Auto policy mid-term may be a good idea if:
icon
You were quoted for better rates with another auto insurance company
icon
You are seeking to bundle your homeowner and car insurance together
icon
You recently sold or are selling your vehicle and don’t intend to own a car in the future
If you’re canceling your existing policy because your current insurance premiums are too high, you will need to have a new policy lined up before you send in a cancellation request. Without a policy in place, you run the risk of driving uninsured, which could cost you more money in the long run.
