Will my car insurance pay to replace a car seat after an accident?

I collided with a wall while backing out of a parking space. No one was hurt but my child's car seat was damaged. Can I use my own insurance to pay for another one?

“Yes, you can likely use your
car insurance
to pay for a replacement seat. Luckily, car seats are typically one of the few non-permanent items in a vehicle that insurance will cover!
In most cases,
collision coverage
or
comprehensive coverage
should cover a replacement car seat.
If you don’t have either coverage, still check with your car insurance company. Some states require that car insurance companies replace car seats after an accident, regardless of the coverage on someone’s policy.
Should you be unable to get your child’s car seat replaced, consider shopping around. When you comparison shop, you can find out what companies replace or reimburse you for a car seat after an accident.
While switching now won’t help your current situation, your car seat would be covered in the future. If you need help finding new insurance, use the
