Why would a 2010 Ford F-150 have a ticking noise coming from the engine?
I recently started hearing a ticking noise near my truck’s engine. What causes a ticking noise in the engine of a 2010 Ford F-150?

Ahh! Ticking sounds aren’t fun to hear.
A 2010 Ford F-150 might have a ticking noise coming from the engine for a few different reasons, including cam phaser issues.
A cam phaser controls valve timing by adjusting the position of the camshaft in relation to the crankshaft and pistons. If a cam phaser goes bad, your valve timing will be out, and you will undoubtedly hear a ticking sound.
Ford F-150 cam phaser problems aren’t the only thing that can cause a ticking sound in your engine, though. Here are some other common causes of engine ticking:
- Low oil
- Faulty spark plugs
- Worn-out lifters
- Haggard pulleys
Some ticking sounds are normal, however. Injectors, PCV valves, and purge valves can all make ticking noises as they execute their regular duties.
