What does my car need to pass inspection in Missouri?

I just bought a used car in Missouri and I need to pass the state-mandated inspection. How do I do it?

To pass inspection in Missouri, make sure your car is in working order, find an approved examiner, and pay $12.
Here are the parts of your vehicle that should be in working order to pass a
Missouri car inspection
  • Bumper height
  • Exhaust/emissions
  • Fuel system
  • Braking components
Required for some vehicles: Inspections are required on used cars in
Missouri
with more than 150,000 miles or that are more than 10 years old.
Finding an examiner: Find an approved list of providers on the state’s website or look for shops that hang a state license to conduct inspections.
Cost of the examination: The exam will cost you no more than $12.
An inspector will check the brakes, mirrors, glass, windshield wipers, suspension, and steering components, among other parts. If everything looks good, you should be able to title and
register your car
without any problems.
Remember that you’re also going to have to pay
sales tax
when you title the vehicle!
