Why is my Kia Forte making a ticking noise?
I’ve got a bunch of nieces and nephews that I like to hang out with. They think I’m the most interesting person alive. I used to take them to baseball games, but since they got into a food fight right behind the visitors' dugout (which I both sanctioned and participated in), we haven’t exactly been welcomed back to the ballpark. Anyway, I thought I noticed a sound when driving, and when I took the kids to lunch at Claim Jumper, they kept asking what the ticking sound was. Why is my Kia Forte making a ticking noise?

is likely making a ticking noise for one of three reasons: your oil level is low, there is an ignition issue, or you’re dealing with an exhaust leak. Then again, your youngest nephew might just be clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth. (You know he does that, right?)
If your nephew isn’t to blame, here’s what might be causing the ticking sound in your Kia:
- Low oil level or pressure: Low oil levels could be due to consumption or a leak, which leads to a lack of lubrication and causes that dreaded ticking sound.
- Ignition issue: Your Forte’s ticking noise could be due to a problem with your ignition system or your starter.
- Exhaust leak: Your exhaust system, which works to reduce your Forte’s emissions, could have a leak or hole in it—a ticking, popping, or hissing noise is an indication of this.
