Why do I feel a single clunk when braking?

I just got my car back from the shop and noticed that I hear a single clunk sound every time I hit the brakes. What is going on, and should I take it back to my mechanic?

! Let’s start with the obvious—brakes that are in good order should not be making odd noises.
There are a few common issues that could cause a single clunk when braking, including:
  • Loose bolts in the braking mechanisms
  • Loose brake calipers
  • An improperly installed
    brake pad
No matter the underlying issue, this is not a problem that goes away over time. So if you run into this problem with your braking system, the best practice is to take your car to a licensed mechanic to fix it right away.
