Why do car dealerships continuously pull your credit?

Why do car dealerships pull your credit multiple times? I just signed up with a dealer for financing and they said they shop my credit profile around to different lenders. So when I looked at my credit report, I was shocked to find seven inquiries.

Because a dealer needs to find a lender to finance your vehicle, you may notice that multiple lenders are pulling a credit report on you.
First, it’s important to understand how the
car financing
process works.
Multiple inquiries on your credit profile within 14 days are counted as a single inquiry. This is understood as a normal part of the whole vehicle financing process.
You may notice a
slight decrease
in your credit score but it won’t be permanent. Your only job is to select a lender within those 14 days to avoid extra hits to your credit report (and you can
check your credit score
anytime!).
