Good question! Some of the most reputable manufacturers of timing belts are Gates, Continental, Dayco, and Aisin.
Bear in mind that your car’s make and model will partially determine which manufacturer is best. Check your owner’s manual for more information.
Generally speaking, here’s how to tell if an aftermarket or OEM timing belt is good quality:
- Materials produced to OE (Original Equipment) specifications
- High-quality metal and grease
- Well-defined teeth and sturdy reinforcements
You may want to choose a manufacturer that’s been in business for a while. Many companies offer guarantees, which could come in handy later. If you’re not sure, ask your mechanic to make a recommendation.
