Who covers vehicle damage if your car is hit in a parking lot?

"Does the grocery store pay for the damage since it was in their parking lot? I want to get it fixed, but I'm not sure who did it. Will I need to submit a claim with my insurance?"

“Most businesses have liability signs in their parking lots. These state that they aren’t responsible for any damage that may occur to your vehicle if parked in the parking lot.
With that said, they normally have cameras. You may be able to get video footage of the accident. This could help you track down the person responsible.
Every carrier is different, but if you have
collision car insurance
, you should be able to get the damage covered. While you’ll still have to pay your deductible, you’d at least get your vehicle repaired.
Another option may be
uninsured motorist coverage
, if it’s on your policy. This can sometimes cover hit and run damage as well.
While you may not be able to find the driver, your insurance may still provide coverage.”
