Where is the muffler on a car?

I bought a used car from a person near me and for the most part, it’s in good condition, but the seller said the muffler might need some work done. I’m not too familiar with cars so I don’t really know where to look—where is the muffler on a car?

Great question! A muffler is almost always going to be located underneath the rear of your car, next to one of your wheels—it can usually be identified by the exhaust pipe connected to it.
As part of your vehicle’s exhaust and emissions system, the muffler can be found underneath and towards the back of your car. The muffler is what helps reduce the amount of noise produced by your engine and helps control the engine’s backpressure.
Hope that helps!
