Where is the Ford Ecosport OBD port location?
I recently bought a used Ford Ecosport, and the check engine light already came on. I bought my own OBD scanner to use, but this is all new to me. Any idea where I can find the OBD port in the Ecosport?

When we’re talking about a Check Engine Light turning on, it’s always best to tackle it sooner rather than later. To discover the
trouble codes
causing it, you’ll need to locate the OBD port. On most Ford Ecosport models, the OBD port is located to the left of the steering wheel, under a plastic cover. More specifically, the OBD port should be right under the controls below the air vent. Since you have an OBD-II scanner, it’s best to follow the instructions that came with the device. However, these instructions will work for most scanners:
- Turn your EcoSport off and remove the plastic cover from the OBD plug if necessary
- Plug in the OBD scanner and turn your car on
- Insert your VIN or any other information required
- Press the “Scan” button and wait a few seconds
- Watch for the scanner to display the trouble codes on the screen
- Record the codes and scanner data to reference if you need to bring your car to a mechanic
OBD codes look tricky to decipher, but they follow a specific structure:
- The first character tells you which part of the vehicle is affected
- The second character indicates if the code is specific to the manufacturer or if it’s universal
- The third character provides more precise information about the affected area
- The last character gives the most specific data for the issue
