Where is Subaru from?

My mom is passing down her old trusty Subaru to me, and I couldn’t be more excited. I love this car and I’m realizing that this Subaru is all I’ve ever really known, so I’d like to learn more about its origins. Where does Subaru come from?

There’s nothing quite like a beloved hand-me-down, especially for a car you love like a Subaru.
Subaru is from Japan with a bulk of its manufacturing coming out of Ota, Gunma Prefecture. The manufacturer’s automotive history can trace its roots back to the early days of Fuji Heavy Industries when it was started as Aircraft Research Laboratory in 1915.
Fuji Heavy Industries became interested in automotive manufacturing and produced the very first Subaru—the Subaru 1500—in 1954. A long string of
Subaru ownership changes
between major brands like Nissan, GM, and eventually Toyota, brought the Japanese auto manufacturer to where it is today.
