Where do I Cut In My Truck Bed to Reach the Fuel Pump?
Last week the fuel pump on my pickup truck died. I’ve already purchased a new one and would like to install it myself. But I guess I’m supposed to cut a hole in my truck’s bed just to reach the pump. At least, that’s what my neighbor told me. Is that right? If so, where do I need to cut in order to reach the fuel pump?

Your neighbor is half right. You can cut a hole in your truck’s bed to reach the fuel pump, but you don’t have to.
The pump is almost always going to be located in or on the fuel tank, but the exact location will vary depending on the make and model of your truck. Unless you think you’ll need to access the fuel pump often, there may be better options than cutting a hole in your truck bed to reach the fuel pump.
Most truck owners would tell you to hold off on cutting an access panel for your fuel pump. It is a delicate job, and it’s easy to cut something you’re not supposed to.
Consider simply removing the truck bed instead. It sounds difficult, but it’s just a matter of removing 6-10 bolts and sliding the bed off. If you have a mechanic replace the fuel pump for you, they will do so by dropping the fuel tank. But that could cost anywhere from $200 - $1,000 depending on the make and age of your truck.
