I’m a little worried about my car; whenever I try to change gears from park to drive, it won’t budge. I’m worried the problem could be with the transmission, and apparently a replacement could drain my savings account. How much does a transmission replacement cost for a 2010 Chevy Equinox?

transmission replacement costs between $5,382 and $5,784. That includes the cost of the part itself ($4,310 to $4,622) and the price of a mechanic’s labor ($1,072 to $1,162). Just because there is a problem with your transmission does not necessarily mean that you will need to get it fully replaced. If the problem is, for example, a small fluid leak, you can have a mechanic patch it up for only about $300 or so.
But, if there isn’t a way around getting your transmission fully replaced, we’d strongly advise you to crunch the numbers and see if it makes sense with the age and condition of your vehicle.
