Where can I get a medical fitness certificate for my driving license?

I recently had surgery and had to take time off from driving. I was informed that I’ll need clearance from a medical professional to get back behind the wheel. Where can I get a medical fitness certificate to drive again?

First off, I’m so glad you’re on the mend! Surgery of any kind is a huge deal.
You can get a medical fitness certificate from a medical examiner through the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.
It may be possible to obtain a medical certificate from your physician—but only if they have an FMCSA certification. Verify their credentials and arrange an exam with a medical examiner if they’re not qualified.
You can either take your medical fitness certificate directly to your DMV or mail it in. The certificate will verify the following:
  • You’ve been mentally and physically cleared to drive
  • You’re drug-free
  • You have good eyesight or the proper eyecare to help with your vision
  • You’re able to hear effectively or have a hearing aid device
Once all the paperwork is submitted, you can
safely
and confidently hit the road. Ensure that you have the right
car insurance
for ultimate peace of mind.
