When is the best time to practice driving?

Recently, I started learning to drive but being on the road makes me nervous! When’s the best time to practice driving with fewer cars on the road?

Hopefully, you’ll love driving once you get over the nerves!
Driving when there are fewer cars is a great idea to help build your confidence and we have a few suggestions for you:
  • Before the morning rush hour—anytime before 7am is a great time to drive. Rush hour hasn’t begun and there should be some sunlight (depending on where you live) so you can clearly read road signs.
  • After the evening rush hour—getting practice when it gets dark is also important. Once everyone is home for the night, the roads will be less busy for you to practice on! You’ll get a better idea of how the same roads will feel after dusk as well.
  • Saturday Morning—many families will be home in the morning (maybe sleeping in), so there will be fewer cars on the roads. This would be a great time to hit the roads!
  • Sunday Morning and Afternoon—most people are likely to stay home on Sundays in preparation for work and school the next day. You can schedule your practices for Sunday to enjoy clearer roads.
While there is likely to be fewer cars on the road during the times above, it can change from day to day. Double-check your local traffic before heading out!
You will need learner’s permit insurance, whether your own or under someone else’s car insurance policy. While it can be pricey for learning drivers,
