What year was the first Dodge Charger?

I’m fixing up an old Charger and I want to try to emulate the original. What year did the first Dodge Charger come out?

The world was introduced to the first
Dodge Charger
in the year 1966. Since then, the Charger has become one of the most iconic American cars of all time—most famously featured on the hit television series, The Dukes of Hazzard.
The 1966 Charger was the first vehicle to feature the fastback roof design. It also featured rotating hidden headlights, four bucket seats, and a full-length center console, and came in four engine options:
  • 230 horsepower 5.2-liter V-8
  • 265 horsepower 5.9-liter V-8
  • 265 horsepower 6.3-liter V-8
  • 425 horsepower 7.0-liter Hemi V-8
There have been seven generations of the Dodge Charger, with the latest generation in production since 2011.
