Picking out new all-season tires for the first time can be a challenge. To find the tire size—look at the sidewall of your tire or the inside frame of the driver side door.
The tire size will look something like 255/55 R18 XL. Here’s how the numbers break down:
The first three numbers note the width of the tire in millimeters
The next two are the aspect ratio (how much bigger the height is than the width)
The letter in the middle indicates the construction of the tire
The two numbers after the letter give the rim diameter in inches
Finally, there may be additional numbers indicating the load rating and a letter to indicate the speed
Finding new tires can be as confusing as finding better
