What is the life expectancy of a 2005 Ford Explorer?

I’ve had my 2005 Ford Explorer for almost 20 years, and it’s been quite the ride. Lately, I’ve been noticing some performance issues. What’s the life expectancy of an Explorer?

We love cars that can go the distance! With proper care and maintenance, a 2005
Ford Explorer
has a life expectancy of 10 to 17 years—or up to 220,000 miles.
In order to keep your Ford Explorer running in tip-top shape, it’s imperative to stick to a proper
car maintenance schedule
. This means taking your SUV to the Ford dealership or to a certified repair shop for regular oil changes and all necessary repairs.
Common 2005 Ford Explorer problems to look out for include:
  • Rough idling and stalling
  • Coolant leak caused by a cracked plastic intake manifold
  • Broken heater blend door which may cause the heater to be stuck on the highest setting
  • A cosmetic crack on the liftgate
There are only two recalls for the 2005 Ford Explorer. One is for curved tempered replacement glass sold on some models that may shatter in an accident and injure the occupants. The other is for noncompliant replacement lamps, which are missing amber side reflex reflectors and may cause the vehicle to be poorly illuminated.
If you notice a problem with your car’s performance, we recommend
taking your vehicle to a mechanic
as soon as possible to correctly diagnose the issue. Best of luck to you and your Explorer!
