What is the Honda Clarity brake system problem?
I drive a Honda Clarity, and I haven’t had any problems with it so far. My friend is a mechanic, though, and he said he’s heard that these cars have problems with the brake system. Is that true?

It’s good that you haven’t experienced such brake problems yourself! Honda’s plug-in hybrid and electric sedan had a lot going for it, but even the best cars aren’t immune to a few problems here and there. The
Honda Clarity
, for example, suffered some brake system problems over the years—especially the 2018 PHEV model. Here are the most common problems drivers experienced with the Clarity’s brake system:- Dashboard errors illuminating randomly, indicating brake system errors, sometimes locking the parking brake
- Random and sudden braking
- Brake lights malfunctioning
- Vehicle moving even when brakes are applied
- Automatic brakes kicking in suddenly
While there were no official recalls, a handful of complaints have been made to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a variety of issues. That being said, this doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue. Since Honda hasn’t issued a recall, you’ll probably have to pay for any repairs for your brakes out of pocket unless the problem (and your car!) is still covered by Honda’s warranty.
