My daughter is 16 and she just got her driver's license a week ago. I understand there are some strict rules about how late teens can drive. She’s performing in the school play, and rehearsals this month have been going past 9 p.m. some nights. Will my daughter be able to drive home from rehearsals if there’s a curfew for teen drivers in North Carolina?

North Carolina
begins at 9 p.m. and ends at 5 a.m.. If your teen gets their license before they turn 18, they must abide by this curfew for the first six months. This restricted driver’s license is part of North Carolina’s Graduated Driver’s License law, which requires minor drivers to carry a
limited provisional license
in the early stages of driving. As long as the teen
remains infraction-free while holding a limited provisional license, they can graduate to a full provisional license on their 18th birthday. The only situations in which a minor teen could be exempt from abiding by the curfew are when driving to and from school or work.
