What is it like to drive an electric car?

I’m looking into getting a new car, and I know electric vehicles are the future. But I’m also a little concerned. I’ve heard they're a little inconvenient to charge, and even feel different behind the wheel. So, what’s it like to drive an electric car?

Well, good for you for looking into getting an electric car! They’re certainly exciting and will be on the roads for years to come. First of all, it’s important to note that electric cars drive like any other car. Statements you might have heard—such as assertions that they accelerate slower, or don’t hit as high top speeds—are entirely false.
However, there are some key differences you might notice, such as:
  • Your car feels smoother to drive and accelerates more gently
  • Your car is quieter than gas-powered vehicles
  • You might not have to brake as hard—as the car tends to decelerate more rapidly than an average, gas-powered car
So, most differences are minor and aren’t too detrimental to your experience behind the wheel. Still, you should be aware of some caveats to the EV driving experience. First of all, EVs tend to have fairly large batteries, which are often stored somewhere in the middle or rear of the car. This, in turn, limits trunk space.
You’re also going to have to keep an eye on your range tracker. Unfortunately, range anxiety is an all-too-common part of the EV experience—and you’ll need to ensure you’re charging as often as you can. Running out of juice is no fun!
The other good news is that
