What happens if you overcharge your car's air conditioner?

I was trying to refill the freon in my car’s air conditioning, and I think I may have overcharged it. Is that bad? What happens if you overcharge your car's air conditioner?

Uh-oh! Recharging your AC can be a surprisingly tricky and even dangerous project.
If you overcharge your car’s air conditioner, you could do some serious damage to your car’s compressor, put increased strain on your engine, and even cause overheating. You could also just end up with an AC unit that simply won’t turn on or doesn’t blow cool air.
If your car’s AC is overcharged, the best-case scenario is that your AC won’t work. The worst-case scenario involves potentially serious damages to critical systems throughout the vehicle.
Given the inherently hazardous nature of refrigerants and the difficulty involved in adding just the right amount, it really is best to have a professional refill your freon whenever possible. You’ll also need a professional to “bleed” (or drain) your AC unit if it has been overfilled.
