We’re looking for a new car, and I keep seeing certain dealerships advertising that they offer a lifetime warranty for new vehicles. So what does the Honda lifetime warranty cover?

There actually is no
Honda
lifetime warranty offered by the American Honda Motor Company. If you see a lifetime warranty advertised, that is different from the manufacturer’s factory and powertrain warranties. It’s a warranty from the dealership itself. Be cautious when shopping at dealerships advertising lifetime warranties—read all the fine print. What they cover varies greatly from dealership to dealership, and there’s no fixed definition of what, exactly, lifetime means.
If you’re leery about dealership-backed lifetime warranties, you could opt instead for a Honda Care extended service coverage contract. There are multiple tiers to these contracts. What’s available for your car depends on its year and model, but plans go as far as service coverage for up to eight years or 120,000 miles.
