Professionally-made sound-deadening devices can get pricey—but if you’re up to the challenge of making your own, here are the DIY sound-deadening materials for cars that work best:
- Peel & Seal: Originally made for windows and door flashing, this affordable product is an aluminum tape with a rubberized asphalt backing reinforced by two thick layers of high-strength polymer film. You can find it at most home goods stores (as well as on Amazon) for under $50.
- Duct insulation: Believe it or not, duct insulation can help muffle and cancel car noise—it also doubles as a thermal insulator, and can be installed anywhere in your car!
- Noico Car Sound Deadening Mat: If you can afford to spend a little money on a product, Noico sound deadening mats come highly recommended, and are a fast and easy DIY solution to excess engine noise.
