Should I rent a car in Maui?

I’m heading to Maui for my honeymoon and will be there for two weeks. Do you need a rental car in Maui?

Maui
is a perfect honeymoon destination—you’re sure to have a wonderful time. Unless you’re planning to do nothing but lounge on the beach or at your hotel’s pool all day, you should rent a car in Maui. It’s the best way to explore everything the island has to offer.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when renting a car in Maui:
  • Reserve your car in advance: The winter months are Hawaii’s peak travel season, but you’ll find tourists pack the islands throughout the year and most will be looking for their own rental car.
  • Determine where you’ll pick up your rental: Grabbing a rental at the airport is convenient, but it can often be cheaper in the long run to take a quick cab ride to a rental agency for pick up instead.
  • Determine who can drive the car: Be sure both you and your spouse are listed as drivers, so you’re both allowed to drive the rental.
  • Keep your tank topped off: There’s a lot to see no matter which island you’ll be on for your honeymoon, but all that driving can leave you in a precarious position if you run out of gas.
As you’re reserving your rental car, you should also check to make sure you have
rental car insurance
either through your own
car insurance
or through a credit card. If you don’t have coverage or you’re not sure it’s the best, let
