Jeep itself has not come out with their own upgrade options for the 4XE’s 400-volt 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. While it may be tempting to look to aftermarket batteries, the 4XE’s software is programmed to the OEM battery it’s equipped with.
Swapping out the battery can therefore be difficult to program correctly, and if you do manage it, your charging time may be significantly slower. The existing battery is also quite large already—increasing battery size to increase range may just not be physically feasible.
Jeep has promised a Wrangler-inspired fully-electric SUV by 2025 that will certainly get more range than its Wrangler PHEV. Until then though, fellow 4XE owners recommend seizing any charging opportunity you can during your commute to stretch out that electric range as much as possible.
