Is rust covered under the Jeep warranty?
I bought a Jeep about three years ago. Unfortunately, I don’t have a garage and I have to leave my Jeep out in the elements. Yesterday, I noticed a bit of rust on the edge of a door, but I’m hoping the warranty will pay for it. Does Jeep have a rust warranty?

The answer is—maybe. It depends on where the rust is and how it formed. Surface rust is never covered by any warranty—Jeep or otherwise. However, rust that forms from the inside out as a result of moisture getting inside sheet metal is a different story.
Jeep has two anti-perforation and corrosion warranties that may cover rust damage:
- 3-year/unlimited-mile warranty for rust on sheet metal panels
- 5-year/unlimited-mile warranty for rust on finish-painted sheet metal panels
If you believe that the damage should be covered by the warranty, take your car to a dealer today. In a worst-case scenario, they simply deny your claim, tell you the problem with the rust and its origin, and you’ll be left covering the repairs.
