Overview: what is a Jeep extended warranty?

A vehicle’s warranty is typically included in the sticker price and offers a guarantee from the automaker that they will handle the costs of certain repairs and maintenance that can be traced to defects in manufacturing or workmanship. Jeep’s standard warranty is good for three years/36,000 miles of basic bumper-to-bumper coverage as well as five years/60,000 miles of powertrain coverage.
An extended warranty, on the other hand, is much more comprehensive coverage that goes beyond the standard factory warranty. Jeep currently offers two levels of extended warranty coverage that range from five years/60,000 miles to eight years/150,000 miles.
You can purchase an extended warranty for your Jeep at any time, so long as the vehicle is within four years of its in-service date and has less than 48,000 miles on it.

Jeep extended warranty plans: coverage and cost

Jeep currently offers
two extended warranty plans
, both backed up by MOPAR—the parts, service, and customer care division of the Stellantis auto group. Ranked from least to most coverage, these plans include:
  • Added Care Plus: Covers over 850 components and many basic repairs like A/C, instrument panel, and brake line maintenance, to name a few
  • Maximum Care: Covers over 5,000 components and most bumper-to-bumper mechanical repairs and/or maintenance
Jeep is a member of what’s known as the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) group, which also includes the Dodge, Ram, Fiat, and Chrysler brands. To that end, a Jeep/MOPAR protection plan can be used at any FCA brand dealership in North America. Certain repairs might require a small deductible of either $100 or $200, but that’s small potatoes compared to what unexpected repairs usually cost.
Both Jeep extended warranty coverages offer a 12-month interest-free payment plan. On top of guaranteeing the use of genuine MOPAR parts for repairs, you’ll also enjoy 24-hour roadside assistance (including fuel delivery, battery jump, tire change, etc), repair/replacement for up to three key fobs, and up to five days of rental car benefits in case of any overnight repairs.
Furthermore, the Maximum Care plan is transferable, which means that it will stick with your vehicle if you decide to sell it. This will increase your
Jeep resale value
and make it easier to find a buyer.

What’s covered

To pick the best Jeep extended warranty plan, you should first decide on the amount of coverage that you want.
If you want something that covers a wide range of basic, fundamental repairs, then Added Care Plus (ACP) would probably do the trick. Even though it’s the less expensive of the two Jeep warranty plans, it still covers over 850 component parts, including:
  • Fuel injection pump
  • Oil pump
  • Seals and gaskets
  • Valve covers
  • Brake lines, hoses, and fittings
Of course, these are just a small handful of the repairs covered by Added Care plus—the savings you could earn with this “limited” coverage plan are substantial. For example, a valve cover gasket replacement can cost between $250 and $300, while a fuel injector replacement can go as high as $750.
The other extended warranty plan is Maximum Care (MC), which Jeep claims is the more popular of the two. It’s not difficult to see why, either, since this plan covers over 5,000 component parts including virtually anything mechanical from one end of the car to the other.
Maximum care also covers certain parts of the vehicle that Added Care either barely covers or doesn’t cover at all, including bodywork, safety & security features, and the majority of manual transmission components.

What isn’t

Jeep’s protection plans are impressively comprehensive, but no extended warranty can cover everything. Let’s take a look at a few things your Jeep warranty won’t cover, no matter which coverage you pick:
  • Scheduled maintenance services: i.e. oil changes, belt replacements, or tune-ups
  • Wear items: i.e. tires, brake pads, rotors, and wipers
  • Components covered by auto insurance: i.e. glass, plastic lenses, paint, and light bulbs
  • Catalytic converter and particulate filter
  • Trailer hitches, winches, and snowplows
  • Modified, custom, or aftermarket parts
There are a few auxiliary protection plans offered by MOPAR that you can include in your warranty when you purchase a new Jeep at a dealership. Auto Appearance Care covers any dents and dings on the vehicle’s exterior surfaces, while the Road Hazard Tire and Wheel Protection Plan offers a headache-free replacement of any tires or wheels damaged as a result of hazardous road conditions.

Duration

The total duration of your Jeep extended warranty depends on which specific plan you select. You can choose the amount of time and mileage, with options ranging from five to eight years and from 60,000 to 150,000 miles.
Regardless of whether you choose Added Care Plus or Maximum Care, your extended warranty coverage will coincide with your factory warranty start date and will expire after the specified amount of time has passed or you reach the mileage limit—whichever happens first.
Jeep extended warranty coverages range from three to five years and are available in the following mileage terms:
  • 60,000 miles (ACP/MC)
  • 75,000 miles (ACP/MC)
  • 85,000 miles (ACP/MC)
  • 100,000 miles (ACP/MC)
  • 125,000 miles (ACP/MC)
  • 150,000 miles (ACP)

Cost

The exact cost of your Jeep extended warranty depends on the coverage level you choose, the duration of coverage, the deductible, and the price you work out at the dealership. For the most part, Jeep drivers can expect to pay between $2,500 and $4,000 for five to eight years of extended warranty coverage.
Naturally, the more comprehensive coverage plans will be more expensive. On average, a Maximum Care plan is around $500 to $800 more expensive than an Added Care Plus plan, which makes sense when you consider that it covers over five times as many parts. Longer warranty plans are also more expensive than short ones.
Most Jeep plans have a deductible of $100, but options range from $200 to $0 depending on the selected plan and term limit. The deductible is the amount that you agree to pay out-of-pocket for any repairs covered by your warranty plan. The higher your deductible, the lower the overall warranty cost.

Is it worth getting a Jeep extended warranty?

At the end of the day, it’s completely up to you whether or not an extended warranty is worth the money.
Sure, it’s reassuring to know that such a wide range of maintenance and repairs are covered by your plan, but extended warranty coverage is still fairly expensive and you might not think it’s worth the asking price. If you are thinking about purchasing a Jeep extended warranty, then take the necessary time to consider your options and arrange a fair price with your dealer.
If you’re not quite sold on a Jeep extended warranty, then you could always ask your insurance provider if they offer
mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI)
. MBI is similar to an extended warranty in that it helps to cover the cost of mechanical repairs after your vehicle’s factory warranty runs out, so long as they aren’t related to natural wear-and-tear.
