Is renters insurance proof of residency?

I’m applying for a parking permit and I need to show proof that I live in a certain zip code. I don’t have any utilities in my own name since they’re included in my rent. Is renters insurance proof of residency?

Great question!Yes, a renters insurance policy may help you prove residency—but you should also have at least two additional forms of documentation.
If you move around a lot, you may not have your current address printed on your government-issued ID. But you can use a combination of other documents to verify your address.
A renters insurance declarations page may be accepted if the street address is visible and it’s dated within the past 60 days.
You can also show:
  • Signed lease agreement with a street address
  • Renters or auto insurance policy with a street address
  • Paystubs with a street address
  • A notarized letter from your landlord
Proof of residency is a common requirement to access local and federal programs. You may need to prove residency to access in-state tuition, to enroll your kids in a particular school district, or even to obtain a parking permit.
