Is it illegal to drive without a muffler?

I drove over a bad pothole the other day and, somehow, my muffler was hit and became detached. Is it illegal to drive without a muffler?

So sorry to hear that, potholes can be such a nuisance! To answer your question, it depends on the laws in your specific area.
Driving without a muffler is illegal anywhere there are noise laws or regulations in effect. It would be a violation of nuisance laws or disturbing the peace.
To avoid being pulled over or ticketed, you should have your muffler fixed as soon as possible. If you make any repairs or replacements, always check with your
